Hunting (O)

[Amaranthlight]

Amaranthlight adjusted the spear on her shoulder as she walked carefully towards the stream that divided her territory from Frostclan. The young woman paused at the shore, her light violet eyes scanning the rushing water. This is going to be cold....but if I time it right I won't be in there too long. She thought while taking edging down towards the water.
She dipped her foot into the water first, and the chill that shot up her body confirmed how cold the river really was. But the clan must be fed- however small we are. She reasoned, slipping in all the way. Amaranthlight stayed in the shallows as her eyes scanned the water for fish. If she timed it right she could speare more than one fish at a time.
She pushed a strand of fly away hair from her face and crouched slightly, ready to run and strike. When the time was right, Amaranth raced through the water, her spear slamming into the shadowy depths as she used it as a pole-volt. Landing with a splash, the blond girl raised her spear to find three fish at the end.

Delighted she let out a small laugh of bewilderment- for usually at the most she'd ever caught was two.

"I doubt I could ever do that again." She muttered, gazing at her prey with pride as she moved back to the bank and slid her prey into the fresh-kill bag.

A cold wind gusted through the trees, reminding Amaranthlight exactly how cold she was. But admist the the familar rustling of the wind in the leaves...there was another sound that caught her attention....

The young woman froze, her spear tightening in her hand.

"Who's there?" It was a silly question to ask....but she asked it none the less.

[Sleetfall]

Sleetfall emerged from the brush with two daggers in his hand, his pale eyes blinking at her. "It's just me. I was on the border patrol.. but I wandered off because I heard you." His eyes drifted over to the fish in his spear. "How many did you get? I'm surprised the river hasn't frozen over yet..." Sleetfall definitely didn't want the river to freeze over. It was one of their main sources of food.

[Amaranthlight]

Amaranthlight lowered her weapon, relieved to find her clanmate instead of an intruder.
" Silly me...I forgot border patrol would be going around too. Anyway, I got three fish at once- which is a record for me."
She laughed. She began braiding her long blond hair, pulling strands our of her pale face she glanced over at Sleetfall. "So, before you left border patrol- how were things going?" She asked. Being deputy she would need to report things they reporter to her to their leader.

[Sleetfall]

Sleetfall thought for a moment, scratching his chin. "Nothing seemed out of the normal. No border was crossed, no prey seemed to he stolen. No signs of blood." He put his daggers back into their holsters, and fully relaxed. "But... I could double check if you would like."

[Amaranthlight]

Amaranthlight shook her head. "That won't be neccessary, thank you for offering though." She added. Her violet eyes lingured on the river, narrowing in thought. "What will we do when the river freezes over, Sleetfall?" She pulled her knees to her chest and looked up thoughtfully at he companion. Although he was blind she never needed to worry about him- Sleetfall did just fine most of the time, and his other senses were bettered attuned than her own.

[Sleetfall]

Sleetfall walked over to the river and sat down next to her. "I suppose we'd have to find the beaver's dam and fish them out. If there's any left. And there's the smaller animals that live out here." He patted her shoulder and forced a grin onto his face. "Don't worry, Amaranthlight. We'll survive this leaf-bare."

[Amaranthlight]

Amaranthlight let out a small sigh, closing her violet eyes for a moment. "I Suppose you're right...we always do I suppose." She rested her head in her hands. "I guess I just worry....."
If the river freezes we can't get to the fish...we can try to hunt beavers but their difficult. That leaves the small prey...but that isn't garenteed- "We might be resorted to trading with the other clans." It wasn't until after she'd spoken that the young woman she'd said that outloud.
